Short-Pulse X-Ray Optics: Effects and Considerations

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Newer accelerator-based synchrotron radiation sources currently under consideration or construction (e.g., ERLs and XFELs) should provide x-ray pulse durations ranging from a few picoseconds down to less than a hundred femtoseconds. Various optics considerations for such short pulses will be addressed, including temporal broadening effects, pulse length preservation, and possibilities of further compression.
