Abstract

Proper exploitation of spatial supermodes in Michelson type cavities reduces the sensitivity of coherent beam combining to path length variations. The resulting radiance improvement is experimentally demonstrated in a common path generalized Michelson cavity formed by polarization multiplexing the two gain arms into a common space.
