TUTORIAL: Information Theory and Digital Signal Processing in Optical Communications: Scaling Beyond the Imminent Single-Mode Fiber Capacity Limit

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

With digital coherent detection routinely used in modern optical communication systems, wavelength-division multiplexing is rapidly approaching its fundamental Shannon capacity limits. Radically new techniques are required to satisfy the exponentially increasing demand for network capacity. Article not available.
