Abstract
We propose the use of a kinoform diffractive lens to focus near infrared femtosecond pulses in sapphire for supercontinuum generation. The wavelength dependent intensity distribution gives rise to new spectral phenomenology. Spatial and temporal characteristics of the so-generated pulses are also studied, showing that they may have wide applicability.
