Abstract
We derive the cross-spectral density matrix of blackbody field in an aperture and discuss related results in literature. The far-field coherence, found by propagating each electric vector component separately, is shown to reduce paraxially to that obtained for an incoherent, unpolarized planar source. This result illustrates the van Cittert–Zernike theorem formulated with the source polarization and far-field coherence Stokes parameters.
