Abstract

Propagation of an s-polarized electromagnetic (EM) wave across an achiral/chiral interface is considered for examining beam profiles and image transmission via the use of Fresnel coefficients (FCs). Accordingly, first the purely achiral s-polarized propagation is introduced, and thereafter chirality is added to the second medium to derive the FCs. In this case, we assume that both materials across the interface are magnetic in nature (i.e., μ1 ≠ μ2 ≠ μ0). Anomalies in the reflection and transmission behavior (such as emergence or absence of Brewster effect, total internal reflection (TIR), evanescent modes and so on) are examined via simulation and the use of the FCs under variable permeabilities of the two sides.
