ANALYSIS OF THE DEPENDENCE OF THE NUMERICAL APERTURE ON CONE ANGLE IN A TAPERED STEP-INDEX OPTICAL FIBER

Abstract

This work aims to present a ray tracing analysis to determine the numerical aperture of step-index fibers with conical tips. A multi-mode fiber optics is modeled and a ray tracing study is performed in order to obtain an equation for the numerical aperture in terms of the cone angle.
