Abstract

Gold nanoparticles synthesized with aminolevulinic acid were tested in macrophage cell culture to evaluate their toxicity and photodynamic therapy performance with LED irradiation. The goal was to improve drug delivery for atherosclerosis treatment since protoporphyrin IX, a subproduct of aminolevulinic acid, accumulates preferably in macrophages.
