Abstract

The evolution of any technology is paced by the ability to measure the critical parameters. Since about 1975, techniques have existed for measuring the five key optical fiber parameters, attenuation,1 optical- power bandwidth,2–4 fractional-index difference (Δ)5 or numerical aperture, core radius (a),5,6 and index profile (α).5,6
