Abstract

We have developed for industrial production of low-loss optical cables the cylindrical V-grooved structureA1,2 Recent progress In design and testing has led to accurate control of all its parameters, and it is now possible to obtain reliable production conditions for cables free of remaining stress on fibers. These conditions were used for the production of the 70-fiber cable installed over 7.5 km between two exchanges In Paris, and the average attenuation recorded after laying in duct is 2.4 dB/km at 0.84 μm.
