Abstract

Previous work1-3 on an optical fiber local computer network shows that the loop network is a promising configuration. Although a simple loop network has low reliability, it can be greatly improved by the use of a repeater bypassing mechanism and adoption of a double loop structure.4,5 This paper presents a bidirectional optical repeater which can be bypassed without a short break in the bit stream.
