Abstract
With the advent of Ti:LiNbO3 waveguides1 efficient phase-matched nonlinear interactions became possible at distances of more than 1 cm.2,3 Thus conversion efficiencies for second harmonic generation better than those achieved with conventional optics could be demonstrated.3 Recently we have measured up to 16-dB optical parametric amplification for the 1.15-μm line of a He-Ne laser in a 5-cm long strip waveguide. Based upon these encouraging results optical parametric oscillation (OPO) was believed to be feasible in a waveguide resonator.
