Abstract
Fiber-optic Sagnac interferometers1 are under active investigation for passive gyroscope applications. Two problems associated with the conventional configuration are its sensitivity minimum at zero rotation rate and the effect of noise sources on its intrinsic dc operation. Recently several schemes to operate the Sagnac interferometer at maximum sensitivity (in quadrature) have been demonstrated.2,3
