Abstract
In addressing the topic "Present and Future Fiber Manufacturing Outlook", it is appropriate to examine the past, present, and future aspects of the subject. Tremendous strides in the past 10 years have allowed fiber to reach its potential for low attenuation and high bandwidth. In the present, mass production is transforming a laboratory process into an efficient and economic reality, while maintaining the same high quality. Future trends can be recognized in various fiber system designs to meet the premise, loop, trunk and long haul markets. Fiber processes must be adaptable to provide the required designs to meet these needs.
