Abstract

Use of single-mode optical fibers In the spectral region of minimum chromatic dispersion is of great interest for nonlinear applications1,2 as well as for large bandwidth optical communication. In the low material dispersion region, the phase matching condition for stimulated four-photon mixing (SFPM)3 can be modified to give large frequency separations in a single-mode fiber1,4 through the waveguide dispersion characteristics of the fundamental mode by varying fiber parameters, such as core diameter or index difference.
