Abstract

The feasibility of coherent optical fiber systems, in which a coherent laser wave is used to carry information, has been studied.1,2 A coherent optical modulation-demodulation system using a semiconductor laser transmitter and a local oscillator has been successfully demonstrated.3 Direct FM characteristics for several types of AlGaAs laser have been studied for FM transmitter applications.4
