Abstract

We have studied the wavelength dependence of the mode diameter for single-mode fibers with depressed Index claddings.’ The data were obtained using the transverse offset technique. This technique is based on calculations done by Marcuse2 and has been implemented by Streckert3 and Millar.4 In this technique the power P transmitted through a gap between the ends of two identical fibers (launch and pickup fibers) is measured as a function of an in- traduced transverse offset d between the fiber axes. Marcuse showed that.
