Abstract

Modal noise is an interesting problem for multimode optical fiber in long-span aerial cable, such as a composite fiber-optic overhead ground wire (OPGW), which incorporates optical fibers into an overhead ground wire, and is expected to be used in the near future to provide additional communication capabilities for system protection and control of overhead power transmission systems.
