Abstract

Recently there has been considerable interest in the use of broadband lasers in fiber-optic gyroscopes.1 These sources significantly reduce the coherent Rayleigh backscattering noise by virtue of their short coherence length (typically <50 μm). In this paper the intensity and frequency stability of this type of device is investigated in the low-frequency regime. The coherence length of these devices has been measured using a Michelson interferometer.
