Abstract
The fiber SLC carrier uses optical guided-wave technology for transmission of voice and digital data from a central office to a remote location. Digital loop carriers are being used in increasing numbers to meet the demand for digital services in the local loop network. The recent use of the lightwave feeder is instrumental in the evolution of a digital loop capability because of the inherent advantages that lightguides have over metallic media. They (1) have wide bandwidth capability, (2) eliminate repeaters, (3) lessen congestion through use of small-size lightguide cables, and (4) provide significant cross-talk reduction and immunity from inductive Interference.
