Abstract

The outside vapor deposition (OVD) process, which is the main process used by Corning Glass Works to produce optical waveguide fiber, continues to show its great flexibility and ability to produce high-quality fibers of different designs. Advancement in the knowledge of the basics of the process has allowed improved performance in manufacturing. In some cases performance approaches fundamental limits.
