Abstract

The optimization of guided wave electrooptic components for fiber-optic sensors, data processing, and telecommunication applications has been the focus of integrated-optic research for several years. Recently there has been a focus toward the design and fabrication of multicomponent chips. This paper will present recent experimental and theoretical data for a 0.83-μm wavelength integrated- optic fiber-optic sensor circuit. This chip contains three switches, a phase bias element, and polarizer. The topics to be discussed are device and chip design, fabrication, performance, fiber-to-chip coupling, and optical damage characteristics of the device.
