Abstract

The PCVD process described in detail else- where1,2 allows the deposition of a great number of thin layers, each with a well-controlled composition. As a result the desired index profile can be approximated very accurately. This is a clear advantage for graded-index multimode fibers as well as for the more or less complicated monomode designs.3
