Abstract
The loss of the LP11 mode near cutoff wavelength is increased by slight bending. Since single-mode fibers in a cable are usually subject to the complex of bendings which cause the excessive bending loss of the LP11 mode, single-mode operation of the LP11 mode will be realized in the wavelength region shorter than the theoretical cutoff wavelength. In this paper we discuss the shift of the effective cutoff wavelength.
