Abstract

Ever increasing demands and opportunities for digital Information transportation are leading to requirements for optical communication systems with information flow rates beyond 1 GHz. Implementation of reliable and reproducible systems at these high rates presents substantial challenges in all areas including sources, detectors, fibers, and associated electronics.
