Abstract
A prerequisite for the future widespread application of high-speed lightwave technology in the exchange and local distributions is the availability of low-cost yet high-performance transmission equipment. The timing extraction and decision circuits used in present long-haul and exchange transmission systems constitute a sizable portion of the regenerator electronics that has to be simplified tor more general applications. We report in this paper a delay-and-multiply timing recovery circuit which offers a simpler alternative to the differentiate-and-ecutlyapproach1 commonly used in conventional regenerator design.
