Abstract

This paper discusses fabrication and performance of long lengths of very low-loss silica core fibers. Over 240 km of this fiber were fabricated for use in cabling and system experiments. These experiments included 203 km at 420 Mbit/sec.1 130 km at 2 Gbit/sec,2 and 68.3 km with 2 Gbit/sec for ten different wavelengths.3
