Abstract

This paper presents a scientific investigation of single-mode fused-taper couplers. Previous work has concentrated on production of low-loss couplers and the dependence of the coupling ratio on wavelength and the index of the surrounding medium. 1–3- In this paper we report new optical effects which include a modulated comb filter characteristic, various coherence effects, and an investigation of the reciprocity characteristics of the coupler.
