Abstract

The need for fibers capable of surviving in hostile environments is becoming more critical as applications for fiber optics continue to expand. For example, high temperature, high stress, and nuclear radiation protection are necessary for optical sensor applications in nuclear reactors, geothermal exploration, and fire resistant cables.
