Abstract
By placing a periodic perturbation in the evanescent field of a side-pollshed single-mode fiber,1–4 a narrowband reflection filter can be constructed.2,3 These fiber-compatible devices offer the potential for high efficiency3 and low insertion loss, since the signal is not removed from the fiber. One limitation of these previously demonstrated devices2,3 Is that they operate at only one fixed wavelength which Is set by the spatial period of the evanescent perturbation. We describe a method which allows for tunable operation of a narrowband evanescent-field reflection filter.
