Abstract

This paper describes an autonomous diagnostics system for the laser transmitter in an optical heterodyne frequency-shift-keyed (FSK) communication system. The system uses a Ne-filled discharge device and a static Fabry-Perot interferometer (Fig. 1) in conjunction with simple electronics and algorithms to set transmitter wavelength and the spacing between FSK tones.
