Abstract
High-bit-rate long-distance transmission is limited mainly by the dispersion of optical fiber and undesirable relaxation oscillation and wavelength chirping of the laser diodes. External modulation is one of the most suitable methods for low-dispersive long-distance optical transmission. We have developed single-crystal PLZT thin films1 for use in high-speed optical switches.2–4
