Abstract

The performance degradation/improvement of a binary frequency-shift- keyed (BFSK) system as a function of diode laser facet reflectivities is analyzed. A 15-mW diode laser with 32% facet reflectivities and 5-MFIz Lorentzian linewidth1 is used as a system standard. A particular system operating point may be chosen for the standard diode laser and corresponding gain/loss required to maintain that the bit error rate (BER) is calculated for laser diodes with other facet reflectivities.
