Abstract

Since the successive inventions of lightguide fiber preform processes in the 1970s, worldwide competitive efforts for lightwave technologies have led to remarkable achievements in every field associated with lightwave communications applications in the past ten years. Particularly, the manufacturing technology of optical fibers has been rapidly advanced and is currently reaching a state of maturity. Therefore, this is the time to develop a new method for high volume production of fibers that will become a prime impetus to further reduce cost.
