Abstract

In optical subscriber systems, rapid fiber connection techniques are necessary for high-count single-mode fiber cables. Small high-count connectors with a short working time in the field are desirable. Although a high-density splicer has been developed for graded-index fibers,1 only 1-D arrangement connectors with a low fiber count have been developed for single-mode fibers.2,3 We describe a newly developed plastic-molded single-mode fifty- fiber connector with a 2-D fiber arrangement, which provides demountable and interchangeable connections for single-mode fiber ribbons.
