Abstract

Lightwave DPSK transmission is suited to long-distance high-capacity communication systems.1,2 it requires, however, narrow linewidth lasers and extremely stable operation. We achieved this important technical step in an experiment at 1.2 Gbit/s using compact fiber-external-cavity DFB lasers.
