Abstract

An optoelectronic integrated circuit (OEIC) is a semiconductor chip on which optical devices and electronic circuits are monolithically integrated. This is the key technology for achieving next generation broadband optical communication systems such as broadband ISDN subscriber loops, highspeed LANs, CATV systems, and optical interconnections, because OEICs have the potential advantages of high performance, particularly high speed and low noise, and of constructing compact and reliable systems with simple assembly at low cost.
