Abstract

A major advantage of laser amplifiers is the possibility of simultaneous amplification of several channels in a wavelength-division-multiplexed (WDM) system. However, intensity modulated signals cause gain and index fluctuations in the amplifier mediated by the carrier density. This results in crosstalk between WDM signals. Previously, measurements on crosstalk in a GaAs amplifier1 and on two-color gain saturation in InGaAsP amplifiers2,3 have been reported.
