Abstract
The interconnection of many processors to increase the computing power of the ensemble is a growing theme in the data processing industry.1-3 A key element of this computer complex becomes the network, which allows efficient data transfers. The performance and cost of these networks are often determined by the wiring technology chosen, specifically the electronics and optoelectronics of the interfaces at the network’s nodes. For higher speed networks, fiber optics is attractive for the transmission lines, and GaAs is attractive for the interface electronics and optoelectronics.4
