Exploring the Stokes Space by Non-Orthogonal Polarization Modulation for a Smooth Upgrade of Optical Link Capacity

Abstract

We experimentally demonstrate transmission at 4 bits/symbol through 2-dimensional Stokes vector modulation while retaining a direct detection receiver. Robustness against channel-induced state transform is confirmed through measurements over 40 km of field-deployed fiber.
