Abstract

In this paper, a novel buffering design and performance evaluation of optical flow switch with smart scheduling algorithms are proposed. The input buffer scheduling methods are used for a hybrid switching module or all-optical switching module on the data center. Using the smart input buffer scheduling methods can make the overall exchange throughput further effectively increased. In the hybrid switching module, we propose the offload scheme. The overall switching efficiency will be improved significantly. In the future all-optical switching module, four schemes which include discard scheme, padding scheme, free-riding scheme, and aggregate scheme are proposed and simulated. The results of performance evaluation also show that aggregate scheme has a better switching efficiency.
