Abstract

A fiber-optic sensor with a Fiber-Fabry- Perot (FFP) as sensing element has been developed and packaged to measure peristaltic motion in the oesophagus - stomach transition region. Clinical tests that have been performed with fifteen patients demonstrate that this new fiber-optic sensor does not exhibit problems such as sensor dislocation known from conventional sensor types, and that it is easily applicable and well tolerated by the patients.
