Abstract

It has been shown in a recent paper1 that the scattering pattern from a fiber i11uminated perpendicular to its axis by a coherent light beam is characteristic of the refractive indices and dimensions of the core and cladding of the fiber. More specifically it was shown that under certain conditions this pattern could be used to determine both the core diameter and the outer diameter of the fiber.
