Abstract

This paper discusses several important aspects of a doubly clad optical fiber with a low refractive-index inner cladding. This type of optical fiber, shown in Fig. 1(a), is referred to as a W-type fiber. We assume the inequality a < b < 1. A W-type fiber has a number of unique characteristics when used in a multimode transmission system as well as in a single mode transmission system
