Abstract

Electronic and nuclear contributions to nonlinear optical properties of niobium oxide- based glasses have been measured using third harmonic generation and pump-probe techniques. Discrepancies with Hellwarth’s model have been evidenced for niobium oxide concentrations above 30 mol%, probably due to extra specific collective vibrational modes.
