Demonstration of 4.4 dB on-off Brillouin gain in a silicon photonic wire

Abstract

We experimentally show record 4.4 dB continuous-wave on-off Brillouin gain in a partially underetched silicon wire. Additional improvements in optical losses and mechanical confinement may enable clear net gain in this structure.
