Fast Dynamic Strain Measurement in the Spallation Mercury Target Using Fiber-Optic Sensors

Abstract

We report the measurement of fast dynamic strains produced by high energy proton pulses in the mercury target of the Spallation Neutron Source using single-mode fiber-optic interferometric sensors and a quadrature phase-shifted optical demodulation scheme.
