Abstract

A new instrument for velocity and size measurement of large particles in two-phase flows was introduced and demonstrated. This instrument which is based on the laser interferometer technique uses two Ronchi gratings. The two separate diffraction modes formed by the gratings interfere with each other and generate the necessary fringe pattern. The instrument can be continuously matched to particles from 100 μm to the centimeter range.
