Abstract

An x-ray image detector having a 10­5-μm resolution for 5-keV x rays in high flux conditions is described. It consists of an array of optical fibers, the core of which has been replaced by a high-index fluorescent material. Preliminary realizations and experiments are reported, which give hope that good efficiencies will be obtained by matching a scintillating fiber array to an image intensifier. Such detectors should find useful applications, for example, to synchrotron radiation experiments.
