Abstract

The use of ray-optical techniques in the study of microwave radiation, propagation, diffraction, and ducting is reviewed, and relevant concepts are illustrated by simple examples. Emphasis is placed on the relation between ray-optical and wave-optical procedures, and on the role of modal methods in the study of quasi-optical phenomena. A number of microwave devices and components, designed on the basis of ray optics, is included in the discussion.
